This game is a remake of a previous game nearly a decade ago that never hit the United States this Castlevania shows that there is still a good amount of fight left in the series.

Dracula X Chronicles tells the tried and true story of a dark priest named Shaft who resurrects Count Dracula to do his dirty deeds. This generation puts up the opposition in the form of Richter Belmont and Maria Renard. Dracula seeks revenge on Richter by capturing his girlfriend Annette and goading him into a rescue attempt. Never one to stand by and let his girlfriend down Richter prepares and sets out to meet his destiny.

You start the game off as a whip-touting Belmont. You’re vampire hunting does not only come with the whip but also with an assortment of sub weapons and items at your disposal. If you play right you can unlock Maria early in the game that you can then choose to play as instead. There is something fascinating about killing vampires with a little girl who throws birds and sing songs. Maria cannot take as much damage as Richter can but her attacks are easier to use and she has much more utility than Richter does.

You can actually unlock the original game that Dracula X Chronicles was remade from in its untouched form. This is great for all of you nostalgic gamers out there.

As always on the PSP the controls take some getting used to. But regardless Dracula X Chronicles is a very enjoyable game that keeps to the true linear roots of earlier Castlevania games. There are many unlockables that give much replay value and it’s basically three games one.

Now go out and have some fun hunting vampires.
