FF Tactics: War of Lions does the Tactics series justice without a doubt and even though its predecessor is over 10 years old, War of Lions proves that gameplay is key in today’s gaming. FF Tactics: War of Lions manages to pack over 60 hours of entertaining and challanging gameplay into a handheld format, though the graphics don’t seem to have improved much since the first installment. Any fan of FF Tactics will know that the visuals aren’t what make these games great anyway.
The game offers all the classes and character customizations that you loved in the first game and they even added a few classes and customizations. The first game did a great job explaining classes and character builds, but in this game Square leaves you to figure these things out for yourself, so if you’re new to the series it may require some time to get used to.
Again the gameplay here is excellent and you won’t tire of it easily. I played through the game not 2 but 3 times now, and it still hasn’t gotten old. Each battle is different and will require you to adapt to the different enviroments and enemies. Magic attacks are as beautiful as ever despite only being 2D. And something that wasn’t available in the first game are the beautiful full action cut scenes that sink you even deeper into the intriquing story.
The multiplayer mode was my favorite addition in this game, allowing one-on-one battles and coopertive play adding even more play time. Both modes make balancing your parties entertaining and add a whole entire layer of stradegy.
FF Tactics: War of Lions is easily one of the best installments in the Final Fantasy series that we’ve seen in years and is an essential for any Final Fantasy or RPG fan. This is a must download game!
